Post-Op Care

Helping You Recover From Your Operation

An organized, proactive post-surgery plan is the key to making a full recovery. Our team will present all of the following information to you, on a one-on-one basis, to ensure all of your questions are answered before leaving our facility.

Pain Management: Maximize Comfort to Maximize Recovery

  • Apply ice as instructed.
  • We strongly encourage avoiding narcotics if able.  We highly recommend optimizing pain control with non-narcotic agents such as Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and Ibuprofen (Advil) if medically able.
  •  If narcotics are needed you will likely benefit from stool softeners as well.

Activity: What To Do & What To Avoid

  • We attempt to help you get back to normal functional status as soon as it is safe.
  • Most abdominal surgeries require lifting or activity restrictions for a short time after surgery.

Wound Care: How to Care for Local Wounds

  • After most surgeries, you will likely be able to shower the following day.
  • If local wound care is need this will be discussed prior to leaving the office/hospital.
